This olive oil and lemon juice elixir has taken the internet by storm, and very very good reason. Not only is it quick and easy to make, but it is packed with health benefits and it’s delicious. So let’s break it down.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice and the lemon peel are loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatories like vitamin C. Lemons are also noted to have the following health benefits:
- Great source of antioxidants
- Good for digestion
- Boosts the immune system
- Reduces inflammation
- May help improve skin quality
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) adds even more health benefits to this elixir. EVOO is a source of monounsaturated fatty acids, which are great for heart health. EVOO is also rich in vitamins K and E.
In addition to this, EVOO has the following health benefits:
- High in healthy monounsaturated fats
- Rich source of antioxidants (helps zap free radicals)
- May help reduce inflammation
Recipe
- 1 whole lemon, washed. Get organic if you can!
- 3 cups filtered water
- 2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil
Add-ins we love:
- Ginger
- Honey
- Cinnamon
Instructions
- Clean lemon well. Cut into quarters and add to a blender.
- Add cold water followed by olive oil and any add-in options. Blend on high for one minute.
- Pour mixture through a fine-mesh strainer to remove lemon seeds and pulp, which can be discarded.
- Separate about 4 ounces of the juice into 4 containers to store until you’re ready to drink!
This drink should be enjoyed first thing in the morning on an empty stomach to enjoy all the benefits.
